In memory of Sinikka Demaré
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Sinikka Demaré, a dear HPF family member and friend who was also the main driver of our fundraising activities in Zürich. She will be dearly missed.
In 2019, Sinikka and her family donated funds to build Pancheswori Secondary School in Nepal, which is now finished and will help hundreds of children create a better future for themselves (images from the opening ceremony). At Sinikka’s funeral in the beginning of this year, her family and friends raised funds for two new projects to create better opportunities for the children at Pancheswori.
The first project will be to start an entrepreneurial programme for the parents of school children so they can generate a sustainable income for themselves and be able to send their children to school. A project like this will mean a huge difference for the local community and can lift up the entire village by empowering the people to start their own business and become micro-entrepreneurs.
The second project will be to establish a scholarship in Sinikka’s name for young girls who wish to attend the HPF IT Academy. Empowering young people through education was incredibly important to Sinikka, and we are proud to be able to facilitate this scholarship which will create better opportunities for young girls who otherwise would not be able to get a degree. The IT Academy aims to educate young people in digital skills and empower them to become their own boss as IT Freelancers. The academy will begin its first course in Graphic Design in July 2022.
HPF wish to thank Sinikka and her family for everything, and we look forward to continuing our work with these two new projects in loving memory of Sinikka.
